Quality Assurance

Tasmania’s remote location, adjacent to the vast expanse of the cool Southern Ocean, makes it one of the cleanest and purest marine environments in the world. This makes it the perfect habitat for two of the most sought-after species of seafood in the world: the black lip abalone - Haliotis rubra - and the Tasmanian Southern Rock Lobster - Jasus Edwardsii.

Both of these prized species flourish on Tasmania’s wild and tempestuous coastline, one of the world’s few remaining pristine environments. The fishing industry must comply with strict rules enabling a sustainable and stable, well-managed fishery, protected from overfishing, habitat degradation and illegal operators.

Tasmanian Wild Abalone is renowned for its succulent, meaty texture and delicate flavour. It stands apart from other varieties because of its premium quality, and is globally recognised as being the best on the market. Tasmanian Wild Abalone represents an impressive 25% of world-wide supply.

Wild caught live Southern Rock Lobsters are another premium Tasmanian product. Ranging in colour from light to dark red, Southern Rock Lobsters are known for their intriguing appearance, and highly sought after premium quality delicate white flesh. Because of their life in the pristine wilderness of Tasmania, the Southern Rock Lobster also has one of the world’s highest meat-to-shell ratios.

Only fifty minutes by plane from Melbourne, Tasmania is the closest landform to the total wilderness of Antarctica. Tasmanian Wild Abalone and Southern Rock Lobster can be found all around the Island, and are available for supply throughout the year.
